To address the racial division and senseless violence in our nation, in June 2020, a few dozen Black advocates, educators, elders, faith-based leaders, and youth met with Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval to have a solution-driven conversation. From this initial discussion, a smaller group of Black leaders from the larger conversation formed the African American Advisory Alliance (Pomona4As) as a 501(c)(3) and set the aim towards efforts of reconciliation and equity in our community. Pomona4As submitted a proposal to utilize a city-owned property to the Mayor and Council. It was accepted with a unanimous vote. We celebrated our grand opening on Juneteenth 2021 and opened the Alliance Community Cultural Center at 406 W. 2nd Street in Downtown Pomona.
